Why now

Four Malaysian rules that changed the maths

Certification used to win tenders. Now it keeps you legal.

CIDB Pekeliling Bil. 1/2026

G7 contractors need ISO 37001 by 1 Jan 2027

Certification takes 3–6 months. The window to start is now.

MACC Act, Section 17A

Directors are personally liable

The only defence is proving ‘adequate procedures’. ISO 37001 documents them.

PDPA (Amendment) Act 2024

Penalties up to RM1m per offence

The Act names ISO 27001 as a way to show compliance.

OSHA 1994, amended 2022

Higher duties, tougher DOSH enforcement

ISO 45001 gives you a defensible system, not a folder of forms.

We’ll tell you if none of these apply to you. Plenty of companies are sold certifications they don’t need.

How it works

What it actually takes

The money

Your real cost is lower than the invoice

Two Malaysian mechanisms cut what certification costs you. Most companies use neither.

The HRD Corp levy you already pay

10+ Malaysian employees means 1% of payroll goes to HRD Corp monthly. Training is claimable against it.

Double tax deduction on certification fees

Available where the certification body is JSM-accredited. Renewals get single deduction only.

You’ll get in writing

Straight answers

Questions worth asking

How long does it take?

Three to six months for a typical Malaysian SME. Longer for multiple sites or standards. Anyone promising two weeks is selling paperwork, not a management system.

How much of my team’s time will it take?

Roughly 25–35 hours total for your core people, plus one to two days of training each. The breakdown is in the timeline above.

How much does it cost?

It depends on headcount, sites and standards, so any number before we’ve spoken is a guess. You’ll get a written fixed quote within two working days.

Can I claim the training under HRD Corp?

If you have 10+ Malaysian employees you already pay a 1% levy every month. Training is claimable against it, and we’ll walk you through the eTRiS submission.

Is ISO 9001 mandatory for government tenders?

Not by law, but it works as a vendor prerequisite. CIDB requires it for SPKK G7, and most GLCs list it in pre-qualification.

Could we do this ourselves?

Yes, and some companies should. It usually costs more in staff hours than it saves in fees. If you have a capable internal quality lead, tell us and we’ll scope a lighter advisory role.

What happens after certification?

Surveillance audits in years one and two, recertification in year three. Budget the full cycle. We also pick up companies certified by someone else and left to it.

What if we fail the audit?

Non-conformities at Stage 2 are common and usually fixable within an agreed window. We stay through corrective action and closure — that’s included.

Tell us what you’re being asked for

A customer audit, a tender, a CIDB renewal. We’ll tell you what’s genuinely needed.
